I have this sabre, any ideas of its origin? What does the marks 23 3C means?

Obviously it could have been an modified Austrian-Hungarian M1768/75, but honestly and to my mind--I don`t think so. There are too many differences (scabbard, hilt, blade etc.). I don´t suppose the sword to be an Austrian Hungarian at all ---but finally I´m not really certain. Besides, you should tell us also some missing facts about the sword (any signs on the blade f.i. "Pottenstein, Waitz" length of blade, weight etc. etc.) It would be certainly a good thing and very useful to hear also an experts opinion on old hussars especially Hungarian swords, who is our Laszlo.

I dont have it in my hands yet, will get it next week. The blade its unmarked. The 23 3C on the hilt looks like a truppenstempel, so i Think it belonged to one of the German speaking states. But which.....? Someone thought it was French, but i dont Think so, they didn't mark their sabers like that.

This, in no way Austro-Hungarian hussar saber. I think this is a M 1788 British saber.

Yep, the resemblance with a Brittish pattern 1788 is very big. But the blade is totally unmarked, very unusual for a Brittish 1788 and the 23 3C mark on the hilt......never seen that kind of marking on a British sabre.....looks more like a truppenstempel
If not Austrain or British (or French)....any other ideas?
Lieber Laszlo! Herzlichen Dank für Deine Hilfe und deine letztgültige Bestätigung, dass es sich hier, wie schon angenommen, ganz sicher um keinen österr. ung. Husarensäbel handelt. Trotzdem bkleibt die Frage offen, ob es jetzt ev. ein Brite ist oder doch noch etwas anderes. Vielleicht weiß da noch jemand Bescheid?

Most British Sabres of this type had "Montmorency"-blades.

I can´t say. There are similar modells in Dänemark and Sweden.

And i have looked at the danish ones.....but no perfect match.....just like the brittish pattern 1788 :/
